Phoenix hook

Always surprising to add another Arizona hook to my collection. Got sniped at 2 seconds remaining but luckily I had bid again with a higher maximum 2 minutes before close.

Walla Walla, Wn.

Article from 1907 Up-To-The-Times periodical.

Mission Dolores Shield/Badge folder

This style of hook was usually more of a souvenir. Examples are known from Western copper mines, large hotels, resorts, Niagra Falls. Glad to have added a local example to my collection for a very reasonable price.

Yankton, S.D. variant

The previous variant of this hook has the wee shoes embossed to either side of the the lettering. So at least two different variants were ordered by this same local store. Very few Western hooks come with the wee embossed shoes.

Sommer & Kaufmann loop handle variant

The "Kozy Klog" folding variant is common, but this is the first loop handle variant I've come across.

Rosenthal's San Francisco & Oakland variant

Sadly the actual hook is damaged as seen in the photos. So, looking for an upgrade...

Milford, California

Small town Northern California.

Beaumont, Texas

Here is a rare extra long hook from Beaumont, Texas. The name of the proprietor is not part of the embossed advertising. I have only one other hook this long -- from Tucson, Arizona.

Dillon, Montana

The seller received this hook from a member of the Eliel family years ago.

Wetherby Kayser Shoe Co. two states

Button hooks from two states are rather few and far between. Other than the common C.H. Baker from Portland, S.F. and Los Angeles most hooks only hail from one city and one state. Here with both states spelled out is a Wetherby Kayser Shoe Co. Los Angeles-only Wetherby hooks are listed in the archive of this blog.

Isaac Piles Yankton, S.D.

A surprise lot of three for a very reasonable buy it now price. The other two hooks pictured will likely go into the recycling bin. Western states hooks with embossed shoes are few and far between.
Addendum:
Coincidentally about a week later another example of this hook was posted on ebay, by a different seller.

Portland, Oregon Hatter

Oklahoma City spats style hook

There aren't really all that many Western States hooks that come in this style -- Denver being the most common.

Earthquake Country hook

I bought this hook as a "buy it now" offering less than 24 hours before the recent Napa area quake hit. From a seller in Napa, California. This is an older style - longer and heavier than it looks.

Los Angeles and Arizona lot

This was a multiple lot of hooks, most of which went in the "extra hook" box which weighs about 3 pounds currently. Two nice Los Angeles hooks I don't believe I have, a common three-city C.H. Baker and the prize a hook from Tucson, Ariz. My fourth or fifth hook from the Tombstone State.

Couple a Colorados

Amazing number of hooks from Colorado. Numerous towns have their own shoe hook. A few of the Denver hooks must have been found in quantity. At least four are very common indeed.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota folding hook with horn

The second picture shows how this combination hook n' horn folded up for easy storage in a pocket or a wallet or purse.

Glove hook

This is the seller's composite photo nicely showing all the details. Again had to pay a pretty penny for such an item. These glove hooks are exceedingly rare.
