Central City, Colorado

The lettering on this hook is different from any other hook I own. The font reminds one of that found on trade tokens. Definitely different. I would guess this was locally made. J. Polglase is listed in the 1890 directory. From the director of the Gilpin County Historical Society (with permission):

His first name was Josiah, and his store was in the Mullen Block on Main Street in Central City (it's the building that houses the Elks Lodge now).  He was in business from 1877 until 1891 or 1892.
